Imagine if a power cut destroyed your child’s vaccines – or left you facing surgery by torchlight. Right now one billion people, including many of the world’s poorest families, face the dangers of healthcare without reliable power.

We think these people deserve better. And we know the proven, cost-effective clean energy solutions that can keep them safe. But these solutions aren’t reaching patients fast enough. Please give to our Energising Health appeal and help us support the innovators transforming hospitals and clinics with sustainable energy.
Clean energy means safer births for mother and baby. It means reliable lighting in wards and operating theatres. It means life-saving technology, from surgical equipment to IT systems. It means life-saving changes at the most remote, rural clinics. And it means protection from climate change and the health risks it brings.

We need urgent action to tackle this global health crisis and are aiming to raise £75,000*. That’s why, until the end of June, an anonymous donor has pledged to match gifts to our Energising Healthcare appeal – doubling your donation.

CREDA won an Ashden Award for Energy and Health in 2018 and we are currently working with them to produce a toolkit for Healthcare Without Harm

How will your gift save and transform lives?

Your gift will help us support front-line organisations improving healthcare through sustainable energy, by funding our Ashden Award for Energy and Health. The globally-recognised Ashden Awards, held every summer, give innovators:

  • Access to the investment and guidance they need to scale up their work.
  • A platform to share what they’ve learned – so breakthroughs and bright ideas are replicated around the world.
  • The chance to talk directly to politicians, experts and the media – which means key plans and policies are shaped by on-the-ground experience of what actually works.

This year two incredible organisations are vying for our health prize. We Care Solar use a ‘solar suitcase’ to deliver safer births in places without reliable power, while Karuna Trust use innovative funding models to bring reliable energy to hospitals and clinics in rural India. Both are saving and transforming lives every day.

Only one organisation will be named an Ashden Award winner on 3 July, but both will join the Ashden network and get our support in the years ahead.

As well as supercharging innovation with our healthcare award, Ashden is helping build a world where healthcare and clean energy go hand in hand. We’re connecting funders with the most promising projects, tackling the rifts between the healthcare and clean energy sectors, and creating practical guides that help politicians and health bosses transform their hospitals with clean energy.

If you would like to send a donation via cheque or bank transfer please contact us at for more information.

*Your donation will help to cover the cost of the 2019 Ashden Award for Energy and Health. In the event that the amount raised is in excess of the sum required to fund the award, the additional money will be used to support Ashden winners working in the energy and health space.
