Rural Energy Trust, Rutland, UK
Building supply and demand for wood fuel

The Rural Energy Trust worked to promote the sustainable production and use of wood-fuel for heating. Activities include advice, training, demonstrations and presentations. Set up by a local farmer, the Trust worked closely with its commercial counterpart, Rural Energy Limited, which supplies wood-fuel and wood-burning equipment.

Wood from sustainable woodland is an efficient renewable heating fuel and its use also creates rural jobs and helps wildlife habitat management. By replacing fossil fuels with renewable biomass the project plays an important role in ‘decarbonising’ our energy economy while a locally based sustainable woodfuel industry helps to create a sustainable rural economy.

The Rural Energy Trust has now closed, but Rural Energy Limited continues to be one of the leading fuel and equipment suppliers in the East Midlands.
