Manufacturer EOC Ltd and Stagecoach Manchester have won the inaugural Greater Manchester Green Business Awards, set up by Ashden Award winner ENWORKS with the Manchester Chamber of Commerce to celebrate environmental business excellence in Greater Manchester.
In 2007 Ashden recognised ENWORKS for helping businesses in the North West to reduce their carbon footprint and cut waste. Since then it has continued to drive excellency in sustainability, so far supporting resource efficiency in over 6,000 small and medium sized businesses in the region.
ENWORKS’ role as a catalyst for sustainable change across the region was evident in the Award entries. Said Helen Stradling of ENWORKS:
“Some 33% of the entrants were businesses that have been supported by ENWORKS in the past (or currently), which was great to see. And EOC UK Ltd, the winner in the Small/Medium Business category, is a business we support through our delivery partners at Groundwork in Manchester.”
EOC UK Ltd has saved £95,100 from resource efficiency measures to date such as reducing waste and energy use, preventing 40 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
Clive Memmott, the Chamber’s Chief Executive said:
"Our Annual Dinner was a fitting setting for celebrating some of Greater Manchester’s most forward-thinking businesses. Organised with ENWORKS, this new award underlines the Chamber’s commitment to helping businesses convert environmental risks and opportunities into the competitive advantages that will help Greater Manchester to grow and take a lead in the emerging low-carbon economy."
The winners were chosen from a shortlist of 12, featuring organisations in the higher education, IT, manufacturing, professional services, property, retail, tourism and transport sectors.
