In February 2012, Ashden and 2011 Ashden Award winner, Radian, presented a half-day master-class, ‘Financing and delivering the retrofit revolution’.
With the advancement of the government’s new Green Deal policy and the UK’s legally binding carbon targets, reducing the energy demand of the UK’s housing stock is a critical issue. Ground-breaking organisations are already funding and delivering retrofit programmes at scale and their learning has plenty to contribute to policy and practice.
The event focused on lessons learned from UK and international programmes successfully delivering housing retrofits and looked in detail at:
- The practicalities of efficient retrofitting (led by Radian and Severn Wye, both 2011 Ashden Award-winners).
- The mechanisms that have already been delivered at scale in Europe and are now being adopted in the UK (led by Global Environmental Social Business, experts in international retrofit finance)
The keynote presentation of the day was given by David Orr, CEO, National Housing Federation.
Presentations given on the day plus audio clips of some of the speakers and delegates are below.
Over 140 delegates attended the Ashden Radian conference ‘Financing and delivering a retrofit revolution’. Here are some of their reactions to the day’s events and opinions about how we’ll bring housing retrofits to scale in the UK.
