Eurostar Ashden Award for Sustainable Travel

“We are delighted to announce our partnership with the Ashden Awards through the inaugural Eurostar Ashden Award for Sustainable Travel. This will celebrate organisations sharing our commitment to sustainable travel so that we can showcase them to a wider audience.”
Nicolas Petrovic
Chief Executive Officer, Eurostar

The Eurostar Ashden Award for Sustainable Travel brings an added dimension to Ashden’s work on sustainable energy. This new award was launched in 2011 to recognise and celebrate the organisations that are leading the way in delivering sustainable travel through technology, innovation and behaviour change. The award will culminate in May 2012 at the annual Ashden Awards ceremony in London, where the achievements of the finalists from Belgium, France and the UK will be celebrated, and where the ultimate winners will be announced. Judging will be carried out by a panel of experts from the sustainability field including Eurostar Chairman, Richard Brown. The new Eurostar Ashden Award for Sustainable Travel is part of Eurostar’s Tread Lightly programme, which aims to reduce the company’s impact on the environment and encourage people to switch to more sustainable modes of transport. The 2012 award is open to businesses, public sector organisations, not-for profit organisations and social enterprises. The winners will share a cash prize of up to £30,000 and have access to the range of benefits that winning a prestigious Ashden Award brings with it. These include a short, broadcast quality documentary film of their Award-winning work; local and national publicity and membership of the Ashden Award-winners network. Schemes that do one or more of the following are eligible for the award:
  • enable greater use of non-car options for travel, such as walking, cycling and public transport,
  • encourage more efficient use of the car,
  • deliver overall reductions in travel energy demand through behavioural measures,
  • showcase an effective combination of technological and behavioural measures to encourage more sustainable travel.
